With the rapid development of economic globalization, English is increasinglybecoming an important tool in international communication. Since the fall of 2001, Englishcourses were offered from the third year in elementary schools of all cities and countiesaccording to the Ministry of Education. Recently, many elementary schools in big cities haveoffered English course from the first grade and even nursery schools are starting to teachEnglish. As elementary English learning and teaching is unprecedentedly valued by differentkinds of schools, a variety of English training classes are emerging and prospering, whichattract the attention of thousands of students and parents. Why are English training classespopular nowadays? Are there advantages of them compared with those in the publicelementary schools on exploring elementary English teaching? Whether there are prominentproblems in elementary English teaching for public schools? What can be learned from theEnglish training agencies? In order to find out the answers, a detailed survey will beconducted in both public elementary schools and English training agencies in JiancaopingDistrict of Taiyuan.On the basis of the relative linguistic theories, the paper makes a comparative analysis onthe aspects of teaching staff resources, teaching materials, teaching methods and teachingfacilities of the above two organizations through questionnaire and interview. Then the authorhas got an insight into the current situation of elementary English teaching in JiancaopingDistrict of Taiyuan in an overall perspective. Moreover, there are some advantages for English training agencies in elementary English teaching. In accordance with the existing problems,some suggestions were put forward to solve the issues and improve the English teaching inpublic elementary schools.The thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter one is introduction. Chapter two explores therelative theories and the situation of Elementary School English Teaching. Chapter three dealwith the methodology of the thesis. Chapter four is data Analysis and discussion. Chapter fivefocuses on the improvement of elementary English teaching. The last chapter draws aconclusion.
