With increasing contact between different peoples of the planet, relationships andmarriages that cross racial and religious boundaries have become more and more common. As for the cosmopolitan Jews, we can also find examples of intermarriage more or less indifferent parts of the world where they have lived in different periods of their long andtortuous history. However, from the second half of the20th century, due to the openness of Americansociety and many other reasons, the rate of Jewish intermarriage soared higher and higher.Part of Jewish scholars therefore believed that this will lead to the disappearance of AmericanJewish community. In response to this viewpoint, the author argues that intermarriage will not lead theAmerican Jewish Community to demise. Through the analysis of features of intermarriage inthe American Jewish Community, the author maintains that converts of the intermarriedcouples, the bridge function of the peripherals, self-identification of the non-Jews and theOutreach campaign all have strong positive effects in dealing with problems intermarriagemay bring to the American Jewish community and therefore maintain its continuity. Inparticular, a comparison between the American Jewish Community and the Kaifeng Jewishcommunity and the analysis of reasons for the disappearance of the latter will further supportthe author’s viewpoint.
