As for listening comprehension, it has long been neglected both abroad and at home. Listening comprehension remains as one of the least understood procedures and continues to be neglected in teaching area, although many researchers advocate more attention to it. Labeled as a passive skill, listening comprehension is not given the proper attention. Listening class is dominated by the traditional teaching method. In this circumstance, it is common that students are exposed to a series of listening texts, and after that are given tests to examine how much they have understood. Rather than being taught how to listen and how to deal with their listening problems, students are asked to do lots of comprehension exercises. Foreign language listeners are even called “tape‐recorder”, which could make students bored and unmotivated. In listening activities, listeners are not stirred up to take the initiative actively. In senior middle school, English teaching has proved to be an occasion on which students are provided with abundant listening material. Listening is involved in intensive English teaching instead of in listening class being tested but not taught. In China, listening comprehension is a relatively new requirement in high school English teaching. Although its importance has been widely recognized and targeted goals have been clearly defined, the effective teaching and learning of listening comprehension remains problematic. This thesis explores a new approach that can enhance listening comprehension learning and teaching in high middle school. Its main assumption is that a much better result can be achieved by employing English songs in listening that are suitable for high school students. The central goal of this exploratory study is to test this approach. With a designed classroom experiment, the study sheds lights on how effective songs can be arranged and trained in high school context. Through designed training, this study has found English songs can be incorporated into high school English listening and the effectiveness is the following:1. The students’ interest in English have been improved through the experiment.2. The students’ listening comprehension has been improved.
