Research On90’s Generation Students’ Concept Of Collectivism In Western Chinese Universities

Collectivism education is an important part of the ideological and political education in university. To study how to cultivate the university students’ concept of collectivism helps to enrich the system of collectivism education theory. This also has very important practical value on cultivating qualified builders and successors with Chinese characteristics, and building a harmonious socialist society.With the progression of the times, the90’s generation have entered the university campus and become the main group of college students. Globalization, marketization and networking make great and profound changes in our social life. Because of this, college students’ collectivism education meets some new problems that the professors and workers in universities need to pay high attention to. The90’s generation university students’ collectivism education in western local universities has its specificity that to study, it helps to reinforce the collectivism education to the colleges.Many experts and scholars have analyzed the status of the college students’ collectivism education. They pointed out the importance and urgency of university students’ collectivism education. They also did some positive research and discussion about the problems of university students’collectivist education, reasons for the problems, and methods to solve the problems. This is a very useful guidance to my dissertation and gives me a further viewpoint to explore.According to the requirements of research on specificity of the90’s generation collectivism education in western local universities, this paper investigates the following three aspects:first, how the90’s generation university students understand the meaning of collectivism and their practice; second, the demand of collectivism and their understanding on current situation of collectivism education; third, the present environment to cultivate the concept of collectivism in western local universities.Through the research we see that the university students’ concept on collectivism is good on the whole. Under the leadership of Party committees and governments at all levels, colleges and universities have created a good environment for students’ collectivism education; most students know the importance, meaning and current situation of socialist collectivism. Socialist moral education with the principle of collectivism has received good results. However, there are also problems that should not be ignored, especially the university students’ desalination of collectivism, which specific performance is:the collective dependency is strong but the thought of individualism is prominent; they have a clear understanding on the theory of collectivism, but their behavior and thoughts are different; their democratic consciousness is strong while the collective sense of honor is weakened; the good groups in university students are weak and the poor groups are strong. These problems directly affect the growth of the university students and moral education in university.The reasons for the problems are due to society, university, and the students. Since the new century, the domestic and international situation has undergone complex and profound changes, along with the development of Chinese market economy and social reform in all areas, money worship, hedonism, extreme individualism took the opportunity to invade and affect young students’thought. Colleges and universities lack the thinking and understanding of collectivism education; their education mechanism is not sound, and the construction of students’ collectives is weak. All the reasons above have influenced the formation of a favorable environment for the collectivism education. The environment that90’s generation students’were raised in (the condition and gap of western local universities) is an important reason to affect the collectivism education.We must take the current university students’collectivism education problems seriously. To accomplish the task of collectivism education for college students, we need to find practical solutions to solve the problems. Colleges and universities should work to improve the leading groups and educators’thinking and understanding on collectivism education, enhance university students’ study on collectivism theory, innovate the collective constructions such as class, dormitory, community, and other units, make them fully play their functions, strengthen the construction of campus culture and optimize the soft environment. It is also preferable to constantly reform the educational contents, find new and innovative educational methods, pay attention to social practices, and provide favorable conditions to cultivate the university students’ concept of collectivism.
