| The practice of starting a business changes the employment patterns. New businesses increase job opportunities, which means that the rate of employment can be improved by newly-started enterprises (including cooperative organizations, private business and projects). This is mainly reflected in two aspects. First, the entrepreneurial activities of people can help themselves realize employment; second, starting a new venture means more job openings, providing other people with opportunities to be employed. College Students’promotion of employment through starting a new business is an innovational activity carried out by those individuals or groups, who are receiving or have completed their higher education and put their knowledge and skills into practice in economic or cultural areas. While they are creating material and spiritual wealth, they create job opportunities for others.Accordingly, this thesis attempts to carry out an investigation on the effects and countermeasures of college students’promoting employment through undertaking new businesses with three aspects taken into consideration, namely the construction of conceptual model, the operation of functioning mechanism, and the significance of the concept that entrepreneurial education promotes employment.Drawing on the theories in economics, PEST external environment of management and SWOT impact factor and taking into account the domestic and international practices and existing macroeconomic environment in China, the author makes an analysis on how to construct the three levels of the model for promoting employment by starting new businesses. It is known in economics that starting new businesses functions as the engine to promote the economy, and according to statistics, newly-started small-and medium-sized enterprises provide70%of the job openings. Therefore, undertaking a small enterprise is an ideal way to fulfill one’s ambition of being an entrepreneur. Based on the analysis of individual characteristics and the educational background and the working mechanism of college students’leading role in promoting employment through starting businesses, the author argues that college students are potential entrepreneurs with more advantages and opportunities and are more likely to improve the job market. The best way to foresee the future is to create the future. Entrepreneurial education at university is one of the important means to develop and perfect the mechanism for college students’to promote employment through undertaking new businesses. This paper also carries out a preliminary study on the goal of entrepreneurial education, on how to improve the entrepreneurial education system, as well as an analysis of the significance of entrepreneurial education. The empirical research taking students of Wuhan University as subjects reflects not only the conflict between students’need for entrepreneurial knowledge and the degree to which their need are met, but also the lack of channels to acquire entrepreneurial knowledge. The study also shows that students are not quite satisfied with the environment for starting businesses as far as the barrier to and needs for setting up new businesses are concerned, for they lack the necessary managing skills, capital and social resources. Consequently, they are in bad need for support from the government and universities in the preferential policies, the starting capital, socialized and professional managerial services, places to start a business, as well as the necessary equipment. |
