This is a case study of the teacher talk in English second language classroom in a senior high school in Nankai District in Tianjin. The main methodology the author adopted are the observation and transcription. The author observed the two classes from the quantity of teacher talk, the quality of teacher talk, the question used in the classroom and the feedback. Through the observation, the writer aims to reveal the real teaching situation of the class and promote the teacher’s self reflection on their language use.Through the observation, the author found the following facts:first, the teacher no longer dominated the speech in these two classrooms; second, the teacher could use the teacher talk properly to arouse the interests of students and promote the output of the students. The author also found that the teacher preferred to enhance the knowledge in textbook rather than guide the students’ creative thinking on the aspect of the teacher’s question. Last but not least, there are various ways of feedback the teacher adopted in the class to encourage, elicit correct answers and draw attention.
