Nowadays, in China, the English classes are still the main sources for most students in junior high schools to learn English. Teacher talk exists in the whole process of English classes.Teacher talk is not only the instrument that the teachers carry out their teaching plans, but also the important source of students’ language input. Therefore it has a significant meaning in the study of the teacher talk in the second language teaching. However, the studies of the excellent teacher talk in junior high schools are quite few. Therefore, this thesis attempts to study teacher talk based on the study of the second language teaching abroad and the scholars at home by using the theory of Krashen’s comprehensible input, Swain’s comprehensible output, Long’s interaction and negotiation of meaning.This thesis tries to study the excellent teacher talk in recent three years(2011, 2012 and2013), four lessons each year, nearly 540 minutes in total. This study has done by watching and transcripting,then adopting the methods of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to study the excellent teacher talk in junior high schools. The purpose of doing so is to find out the main characteristics of the excellent teacher talk. This thesis studies the questioning, the interaction and negotiation of meaning,feedback, which are parts of teacher talk.The thesis is aimed to find out the characteristics of the questioning, interaction and feedback to provide an opportunity for the teachers in junior high schools to know the situations of the excellent teacher talk in junior high schools. What’s more, it can set a good example for the teachers in junior high schools to study and follow.
