Curriculum is the carrier of teaching activities. An effective curriculum reform is significant to the development of English teacher education. The development of teacher education in Taiwan is very well and there are many familiar situations between Taiwan and mainland of China. This research tries to analyze the curriculum of English teacher education in Taiwan, and provide some advices to English teacher education curriculum reform in Mainland of China.This thesis consists of seven parts. The part of Introduction mainly elaborates the significance, conception and methods of this research. Meanwhile, this part also recalls the literature review at home and abroad.As a background, the first part introduces the elementary English teacher education institutions and the training methods in Taiwan. Then it presents the process of elementary English teacher education.The second part discusses the mainstream of curriculum ideas in Taiwan, including competency-based orientation, humanism orientation, academic orientation, critical orientation and practical orientation. The curriculum of elementary English teacher education in Taiwan is based on competency-based teacher education. Besides, the curriculum design emphasizes integration according to humanism orientation. It also stresses on professional knowledge according to academic orientation, the critical spirit of critical orientation and practice teaching according to practical orientation.The third part describes the curriculum of elementary English teacher education in Taiwan. The curriculum divides to general education courses、specialized courses、 teacher education programs and practice teaching.The forth part analyses the curriculum structure of elementary English teacher education in Taiwan. First of all, analyse the percentages of general education courses、specialized courses、teacher education programs of7universities in Taiwan. Secondly, the specialized courses divides into basic English skill training courses, linguistics courses, English teaching courses and literature courses.The fifth part summarizes the problems of the curriculum of elementary English teacher education in Taiwan:(1) There is a lack of basis in specialized courses;(2) More attentions are needed to be paid to English curriculum reform in primary schools;(3)More integrations are needed between explicit courses and implicit courses;(4) The percentage of general education courses need to be risen.(5)The reduce of practice teaching is doubtful.The last part firstly summarizes the problems of the curriculum of elementary English teacher education in Mainland of China. Then it provides some advices in general education courses、specialized courses、teacher education programs and practice teaching.
