Taijiquan redirects and nourishes body energy flow, helps improve our physical and mental health, and is still very popular today after hundred years of spreading around our country. Taijiquan is either taught by tutorial or by schools that based on different theories or patterns. However, most of these theories are experiences induced by different masters and most of them have never been tested scientifically. This fact hinders Taijiquan’s Development in the world. To make Taijiquan worldly popular sport, we need to integrate Taijiquan with modern science. We must study Taijiquan by objective and quantitative methods instead of traditional methods based on individual experience and qualitative research, and form a standardized, quantized action system. My thesis uses Gas Metabolism Apparatus, motion and MEGA Surface EMG Apparatus to collect gas metabolism and EMG data when the subject exercises the action of Yemafenzong in Chen’s and Yang’s Taijiquan. Data analysis and assessments of these two schools of Taijiquan can provide some data support and theoretical bases for the instruction and exercising of Taijiquan. Results of Analysis show that:(1) Taijiquan mainly consumes fat and protein to provide energy.(2) Two schools both have a relatively high Respiratory Depth, which strengthens respiratory storage ability and increases Alveolar Ventilation Volume and Gas Exchange Rate, while oxygen need and energy consumption of Respiratory muscles decrease.(3) Chen’s Taijiquan has a higher requirement to heart functions. It maintains a relatively stable low value during exercising, which improves blood circulation of alveolar, increases ventilation volume and raises heart functions to a high level.(4) Trunk inclination angle analysis show that Chen’s and Yang’s Taijiquan has very small differences and the angle is always between70°-90°(5) The Center of Gravity changes regularly as action goes with time phase. The change is steady and smooth, which shows that the principles of Taijiquan are scientific. The change of Yang’s Taijiquan is relatively larger, which has to do with its explosive force.(6) The principle of speed constancy in Taijiquan is not absolute.(7) Electromyogram results show that Chen’s is obviously lower than Yang’s. The muscle contribution rate of Chen’s is also higher than Yang’s, with the exception of rectus sheath and Erector spinae.(8) Two schools of Taijiquan both use anterior tibial muscle, the vastus lateralis muscle, the vastus medialis muscle, the rectus femoris, the deltoid muscle, gastrocnemius inner head and latissimus dorsi muscle, but with different contribution rates.
