Reading is an important and basic skill for foreign language learners.Intheoretical and practical teaching, reading is always the focus of languageeducators.Although reading is regarded as the most important subject in Chinese EFLteaching of senior high school, the students’ reading competence improves slowly andteaching result is not satisfactory.The present study explores meta cognitivestrategies for reading that employed by senior middle school students, helping teacherspromote students reading efficiency by using the metacognitive strategies.The paper refers to the metacognitive strategies research at home and abroad, itselects the metacognitive strategies as a research point, and it explores theproblem “how to use the metacognitive strategies used in English reading teaching insenior middle school”. it is purposed to cultivate auto-learning abilities and readingcompetence of senior middle school students, and forming good habits of Englishreading.Metacognition originated in the USA, Flavell is the founder ofmetacognition.he thought that metacognition is the activity of learners who areinvolved in metacognition.he thinks metacognition can be applied to psychonologyarena,and is not limit to psychonology category.the research subject of the essay is anapplication of metacognitive strategies to english reading teaching in senior middleschool. metacognitive strategies is the strategy that help learners plan,adjust,monitor learing processs. From the theoretical and practical teaching views, Istarted metacogntion strategies questionarres and the strategies includes planningstrategies, managing strategies, adjusting strategies and so on, i also put forwardsome teaching methodology,according to the features of english teaching.and pratical investigation, i put forward my experienceas follows:(1):students can write out the problems of reading process and set up readingplan before reading.Those are very helpful to students.(2):Students can use different reading strategies according to different readingtasks, and they will summarize and evaluate their reading results. (3):students can improve reading speed and reading efficiency after learningreading strategies and metacognitive strategies.From the investigation,i found out the fact: the higher reading ability, the highermetacognitive ability application.it proves that reading competence and readingefficiency are positive ratio.the higher achievement motivation, the higherself-efficiency of students in reading. and students will be full of confidence in englishreading.
