In today’s world, stimulated and drived by market economic system, against the globalbackground of internationalization, information, economic globalization and the increasinglycomplicated political structure, each and every country of the world pays close attention to theworld’s each change and shift, and focus on its development. Rising China does even more so. Tobecome a rich and powerful nation, and fulfill the China’s Great Revival, educations must be donecarefully, particularly in the contemporary college students. Out of ideological and moral education,thanksgiving education is the most fundamental and important, because its purpose is to lead peopleto be good and do well, which enable us to pursue a more meaningful life. The fact is thatexpression of gratitude is rarely met in the university campus where the after90s generationpredominate, which justifies the need of thanksgiving education. As an important part of theideological and moral education, and a key factor in construction of a harmonious socialist society,thanksgiving education would be highlighted.The present thesis paper, governed by the basic principles of Marxism, is aiming at study ofthe status of the thanksgiving education among the today’s college students. For this end,documents and files were browsed and on-site investigations were done as well. At the first part ofthe paper, through the historic materials, the characteristics and expression manners of gratitude inChina and West were analyzed and compared. At the second part,274college students weresampled in five schools to obtain a general idea about the gratitude consciousness, analyze thespecific symptoms of absence of gratitude consciousness. At the third part, the reasons for the lackof sense of gratitude are explored. In summary, four aspects were considered: the schools, thefamilies, society and students themselves. At the fourth part, the scientific definition of thethanksgiving education was given, revealing that the essence of the thanksgiving education is a loveeducation, moral education and education of the attitude towards life. On the basis, the profoundsignificance was emphasized of implementation of moral education in the colleges and universities.Finally, six suggestions, respectively from six points of view, were put forward about how tostrengthen and improve the thanksgiving education in the college students. The six points of viewwere cultural influence, course scheduling, educators, families, students themselves and the socialcircumstances.
