In today’s society, Educational disparities in urban and rural areas have always been drawn wide attention. In recent years, the national government pays more and more attention to the balanced development of urban and rural education. Government provides policy and financial support to narrow the gap of development of urban and rural education. Educational environment in rural areas has been effectively improved. But the gap between urban and rural education persists. Rural education still lags behind urban education. Optimize the development of education is an important guarantee for the development of economic, political, cultural in China. To build a new socialist countryside, we must develop rural education.This study builds on the perspective of social stratification. Research methods of this are literature method, questionnaire, in-depth interview, participant observation. This paper studies on the differences of urban and rural compulsory education in W City, Hubei Province. And then, we explore the reasons for the backwardness of rural education.The study included three main elements. First, we analyzed the situation of of W compulsory education stage of urban and rural schools the allocation of educational resources. Second, taking the Second Experimental Primary School and the Yongxi Primary School for example, this paper explores the differences of urban and rural schools in the allocation of educational resources and teaching management. This paper also analyzes the differences in students’ families in urban and rural areas of economic capital, cultural capital. In the last, this paper analyzes the differences of the two schools in student achievement.In the stage of compulsory education in rural schools allocation of educational resources in quantity are not behind urban schools. In some respects, rural schools superior to the level of resource allocation for urban schools. However, in resource quality and resource utilization, rural schools are far behind urban schools. The survey also found that urban schools teaching management is superior to the rural schools. Found in the domestic capital for urban and rural students, urban and rural households reflect the different economic and cultural capital there are also a great influence on the educational achievement of students. Different sectors of the family have different capital, ability to different family to family capital into cultural capital for their children are not the same.
