Cognitive load theory is developing rapidly in recent years out of China, it have many beneficial enlightenment in multimedia teaching and learning. The cognitive load theory is not only applied in education and teaching, but also began to develop in the application of cognitive polygraph. The difference between liars and truth tellers will be greater when interviewees report their stories in reverse order. But someone said that another, yet untested, manner of imposing cognitive load on interviewees is asking them to carry out a’secondary’ task at the same time as recalling their stories. Present study was based on cognitive load theory and known researches, investigated the effect of the different level of cognitive load to cues to deception. There are two experiments in present study with the materials adapted from the domestic IQ tests applying to8years old children and mensa IQ tests (Chinese version).Participants were fresh man and sophomores from Department of Educational Science in Sichuan Normal University. In experiment I, we investigated the effect of the with cognitive load and without cognitive load to the cues to deception. In experiment II, we investigated the effect of the low cognitive load and high cognitive load to the cues to deceptionIn experiment I we employed a between-group design,i.e.,2(factor1:Liars and Truth tellers)×2(factor2:with cognitive load and without cognitive load). In experiment II, we employed a between-group design,i.e.,2(factor1:Liars and Truth tellers)×2(factor2:low cognitive load and high cognitive load).we got the following conclusion.First, the liars showed more lying cues, especially the liars and truth tellers display bigger difference in the cognitive load condition.Second, the liars showed more lying cues, especially the liars and truth tellers display bigger difference in the high cognitive load condition.Third, The higher cognitive load, the more lying clues. Finally, the liars felt more difficult, no confidence than truth tellers in answering question and completing the task。...
