Teaching English culture is helpful for students to understand and use Englishbetter; to deepen the understanding of native culture; to foster the concept ofglobalization and finally so as to better understand the language itself. In senior highschool, the English teacher should not only pay attention to the language knowledgeand ignore the cultural education. In order to raise the senior students’ interculturalawareness and improve their intercultural communicative ability, the author designs asurvey for instructing the senior students’ attitude towards English culture, culturaleducation in English teaching, and the students’ specific English communicative ability.Then it points out the teacher’s roles in cultural education, and a further analysis willbe given to address the issue that is recovered from the survey. And at last, there arethe findings.(1) Most students can realize that language and culture are closely related, andculture is useful and necessary.(2) Students are consciously longing to learn culture and they use their resourcesand interests to get culture knowledge.(3) Students are weak in culture knowledge, and know little, even nothing aboutEnglish culture, such as history, geography, religion, etiquette, etc.(4) In general, intercultural education is insufficient in teaching English. The wayof intercultural education is just instructing, and students are passively receiving theseknowledge.
