| Increasing intercultural contact has highlighted the necessity for enhanced effective intercultural communication and it becomes the most important task for an English teacher to help students develop their intercultural communicative competence.The purpose of this study was to identify problems of current intercultural communication teaching and provide objectives, principles and strategies which are appropriate for English education with intercultural communication teaching in elementary schools. Writer has reviewed various theories of intercultural communication teaching for this study. Writer conducted two types of questionnaires which one was given to 46 English teachers from 15 elementary schools and the other one given 289 students from 3 elementary schools. The schools, teachers and students were selected randomly from Qiao Kou District, Wu Han City, Hu Bei Province.Based on the finding, the recommendations for improving the elementary school students' intercultural communicative competence are:1.Three objectives for intercultural communicative teaching are (1) intercultural knowledge objective (2) intercultural emotion objective and (3) intercultural competence objective2. Intercultural communication teaching in elementary schools should follow the principles: (1) real and practical principle (2) comparison and integration principle (3) participation and experience principle3. The concrete methods of intercultural communication teaching in elementary schools include: (1) constructing English learning atmosphere and cultivating thinking in English (2) using carefully prepared teaching material and comparing the culture differences in intercultural communication classes and (3) using extra-curriculum to enhance students' intercultural communicative competence...
