English attributive clause teaching is not only essential, but also difficult for the Chinesehigh school teachers. To discover an effective way of teaching based on the output hypothesis, the research is targeted at answering the following questions:Do written output tasks facilitate senior high school English learners’ learning of Englishattributive clause? Which way is better to help improve high school students’ learning ofEnglish attributive clause, written output exercises or multiple-choice exercises? Do writtenoutput tasks induce high school students’ conscious use of English attributive clause in thefollowing exercises? In this experimental research,60students from Wu’an NO. Three Middle School areselected as subjects. This study aims at investigating whether written output tasks canfacilitate the learning of English attributive clause. The students are divided into two groups, namely EG (experimental group) and CG (control group). In the experiment, the two groupsreceive the same input. The only different point between them is that they are given differentexercises to do after the input, written output exercises for EG and multiple choice questionsfor CG. There are three tests altogether in the experiment, the pretest, posttest and delayedposttest. After the experiment, all the scores of the two groups are collected and analyzedwith SPSS13.0.Data analysis proves:Written output tasks can facilitate senior high school English learners’ learning ofEnglish attributive clause, the effect of which is lasting; Written output exercises are betterthan multiple-choice exercises in prompting students’ learning of English attributive clause.Written output tasks can induce students’ conscious use of English attributive clause. What’s more, the research provides experimental evidence for Swain’s OutputHypothesis.
