Now there are two big attends for the education reforms all around the world. The firstone is a turning of the value orientation by simply presenting all-ready knowledge oftextbooks to push an actively thorough development of human beings; and the second one isthe transformation of teaching organization from class teaching for batch production intosmall class teaching model to enhance individual development. Thereafter, the small classteaching model came into being. Elites bathed under the modern cultivation during the21stcentury should be able to shape themselves with special characteristics and personalities, andbe qualified with those abilities of adapting themselves to the rapid development of theeconomy and society, and furthermore push their progress and advancement. As the fact hasshown, the small class teaching model is the result of this era, which has reached the level ofwhat the economy and technology and the high-quality education demand, making itself asthe mainstream of the development of our country’s educational reforms. However, in China the main participators in the realization of the small class teachingmodel at present are those elementary schools with certain curricula, taking up a largerproportion compared with those high schools which scarcely join in the practical carryout ofthis model, and thereby researches of this kind in English classes of high schools relativelyare not ample enough. Luckily, my school, Jinan No.3High School, has carried out smallclass teaching since2008, which might be the first public high school in our county. Therefore, I have chance to do researches on this teaching model in high schools, to prove thepositive effects of small classes on English teaching and learning in high schools usingquestionnaires, surveys, interviews, and tests and then sum up corresponding teachingreforms in high schools based on the small class teaching model. This thesis can be divided into four parts. Chapter One will introduce the researchingbackground information of the whole paper. Chapter Two expounds mainly about theliterature review of the class teaching model, focusing on a generalized view on dominantsmall class teaching model theory and corresponding present situation. Chapter Threeconsists of the main body of this thesis, which is about the empirical study on the effect of small class teaching in a certain high school. It gives us specific information aboutresearching subjects, researching methods on certain teaching materials, and vividresearching steps and schemes during the course of categorizing and analyzing of those dataadded to the corresponding following results. Chapter Four demonstrates the conclusion ofthis thesis. Not only does it emphasize the result and meaning of the small class teachingmodel, and furthermore enhances the acknowledgement of this kind of teaching model forboth teachers and students, especially students from high schools.I will go on studying to gain professional knowledge to improve my research on smallclass education in high schools...
