The main purpose of this thesis is to research the application of iconicrepresentation strategy in chemistry teaching including macro representation andmicro representation, etc. This thesis expounded the origin, connotation andclassification of representation;summarized the current situation of the research athome and abroad as well as its theoretical basis. A questionnaire involving iconicrepresentation and transition from iconic representation towards symbol representationwere made to conduct a survey on the study condition of high school students. Thesurvey showed that the macro representation of students was better than microrepresentation, and it is difficult for students to convert symbol representation to iconicrepresentation. In order to culture the iconic representation ability of students, thisthesis expounded some strategies, designed teaching plans based on part of contents oforganic chemistry and put into practice in higher vocational school. Some results of thestudy were shown as below:(1)The experimental teaching to strengthen the macro representation promotedstudents’ episodic memory and helped the students turn psychological image into achemical symbol,enhancing the learning of symbolic representation.(2) In accordance with the frailty of micro representation of middle school students,the multimedia teaching with the combination of eChem software can effectivelyenhance students’ micro representation, and established the links between the micro andthe symbols, and can also help to converse iconic representation to symbolicrepresentation.
