In the late20th century, since the society had changed from production-orientation to consumption-orientation, the consumption has been the theme of the civilization in our time, and has penetrated into human’s life as a kind of mainstream ideology. Therefore, consumption is no longer a personal behavior under this circumstance. It becomes the core of the society, the economy and the culture. However, with the development of globalization, the relationship among every nation and every region is becoming increasingly closer, which not only strengthened their cultural communication but also intensified the conflict, so that people’s value and life style have been greatly influenced. What’s more, the rapid development of mass media also makes it possible to spread the consumer culture to every individual without the help of any other media, abundantly and widely. This for sure will exert great influence to people’s concept of consumption, especially for those college students. As the mainstay of social consumption, their behavior and concept of consumption will affect the whole society. Therefore, it is a great challenge as well as a new subject for ideological and political education in universities against such background.The consumer culture of college students is a major component in social culture. It is as well a vital factor which influences the moral cultivation of college students. This paper firstly makes an overall explanation to the connotative meaning of consumer culture. Secondly it analyzed the problems in consumer culture from perspective of college students’consumption behavior, consumption structure and consumption concept by contrastive study. Thirdly, it explains systematically the deficiency of college students’ideological and political education under the background of consumer culture, according to the problems existed in the idea and method of such education. Last but not least, in order to overcome the problems above, this paper makes a research about how to strengthen college students’ moral education under the background of consumer culture, adhering to emancipate the mind seeking truth from facts to keep pace with The Times, with the purpose of truly realizing college students’ideological and political education by leading college students consume healthily.
