As an international widely used language, English has been used by more and morepeople. Meanwhile, more and more parents have paid great attention to children’s Englishlearning. In order to better improve students’ English learning interest, it comes toMultiple Intelligences theory which advocates pupils’ different intelligences. This isproposed by Howard Gardner, the professor and psychologist of Harvard University. Heproposed that human beings possess multiple intelligences, that is Verbal-linguisticIntelligence, Logical-Mathematical Intelligence, Visual-Spatial Intelligence, MusicalIntelligence, Bodily-Movement Intelligence, Interpersonal Intelligence, IntrapersonalIntelligence, Naturalist Intelligence as well as Existential Intelligence. The differences ofindividual’s intelligence are determined by the combination of these differentintelligences. The main purpose of this experiment is to testify whether English teaching under theMultiple Intelligence theory in primary school can enhance Students English learninginterest or not, whether English teaching under Multiple Intelligence theory can betterbrings about in the objectives of “teaching for understanding, learning for interesting, growing for strengths” To say it simple, this research is mainly to testify1) whether theMI-based English teaching can enhance Students English learning interest,2) whether theMI-based English teaching could improve Students English learning ability/skills,3)Howto teach English under Multiple Intelligence theory in primary school? In order to better understand the application of MI theory in primary school couldimprove students’ learning interest and English levels, the writer did the research. This experiment was taken in Renminlu primary school in Yuncheng, Shanxi province.50students from Grade four are chosen randomly as the experimental subjects, then divide these50students into two groups with25each while named one as experimental group andthe other is control group, both are taught by the author but with different English teachingmethod. For example: the experimental group are taught under the Multiple Intelligencetheory teaching method while the control group are taught under the traditional teaching. Inaddition, the teacher involved is well informed of various teaching techniques and iscompetent for the use of computer and courseware. The results of this research showed that pupils in the experimental class became moreinterested in English learning and they acted more actively than pupils in the control group.Their English abilities are improved a lot as well. Furthermore, pupils in experimentalgroup transferred their intelligences strengths to other fields more naturally and frequently. This research proved that Multiple Intelligence theory played a significant role inpromoting pupils’ interests in English as well as their English abilities.
