With the basic characteristics of frequent observation in the whole process and accurate dataanalysis, Microgenetic Analysis compensates some deficiencies in traditional cross-sectional andlongitudinal researches. As a result, Microgenetic Analysis becomes more and more popularespecially for its superiority of frequent observation with its essence of emphasis on theimportance of frequency. The method has been widely used in the English teaching, such as theacquisition of linguistic knowledge and skills, correcting errors in phonological, grammatical andlexical levels etc. Nick Ellis (2002), a psychologist in England, pointed out,“The frequency isthe key for the language acquisition.” In a word, Microgenetic Analysis offers a new method andperspective for those studying Second Language Acquisition.By reviewing the current situations on Microgenetic Analysis and studies about teachers’beliefs, the author put forward the vital importance of applying Microgenetic Analysis to Englishteaching. Based on the relevant second language acquisition theories, pedagogic andpsychological theories, the author, with sincere belief, put Microgenetic Analysis into practice bydoing researches on the students in two ordinary classes that he teaches (Microgenetic Analysiswould be used in the experimental class while the other class would be taught as usual).Through the combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, the data gainedthrough means of questionnaires, interviews, observation, tracking, pretest and posttest etc. wereanalyzed by the software SPSS17.0. The result shows that the scores of the students in theexperimental class are higher than those in the other class; besides, the scores of the students inthe experimental class who were poor in English ranked highly. The results of the study prove that belief is the best approach to creativity and the activatorto the mind. Buried in our mind, belief, which is controlled by human beings, can dominatehuman beings inverse. And success lies in strong beliefs, perseverance and persistence. Thestudy also shows that every student has great potential, which indicates there only are unskillfulteachers without stupid students. With the help of Microgenetic Analysis, students can observetheir slight progress they make and be aware of the potential never found before, whichstrengthens their confidence, develop their positive self-consciousness, helps them maintain the passionate for self-awareness, self-evaluation, self-control and self-expectations, and improvetheir study performance eventually. Meanwhile, thanks to Microgenetic Analysis, teachersstrengthen beliefs in teaching and devote themselves more actively into it, constantly improvingtheir teaching.
