| Scaffolding Instruction (SI) is a model of teaching for helping students building knowledgesystem through the guidance and supports of teachers. It has application value in teachingresearch as one of the teaching models for promoting meaningful learning in students.Our research was implemented in order to achieve the following three objectives: cateringto the needs of the new curriculum reform; transferring from rote learning to active learningand improving the efficiency of biology recitations. Literature, survey, observation andexperiment methods were performed in our research. Based on investigating the applicationstatus of SI in biology recitations in junior high school, the research mainly discuss theinfluence of SI in building up the biological knowledge system for students and theapplication programme of SI in junior high school biology recitations, and then solutions wereseek out by parsing the underlying problems. Afterwards, new problems were discovered viathe actual teaching, and continue the study. The research has a certain reference value inenriching the content of junior high school biology class and promoting the integrateddevelopment of students."Application status of Scaffolding Instruction (SI) in junior high school biology recitationsquestionnaire†was compiled and1000second and third year junior high school students and64junior high school biology instructors in Yantai were selected randomly as the respondents.Results showed that students are willing to accept SI, SI dose help them to build theknowledge system, and some junior high school biology teachers still have many problems inthe use of SI:â… , the use frequency of SI was low.â…¡, some of the teachers confounded thescaffoldings with the concept map. â…¢, some of the teachers were not familiar with theprogramme of SI. â…£, Feedback was not timely. Moreover, some common problems wereexisted in present biology recitations in junior high school,which are neglecting of masteringthe learning method, significant differences between individuals, lacking of active learningabilities and teachers are lacking of the sense of crisis for changing the present teaching modeand so on.Preliminary solutions were proposed based on our survey. According to the potentialinfluencing factors of SI and combined with the actual situation of the junior high school biology recitations, we proposed several solutions: â… ,Strengthen the professional training forjunior high school biology instructors; â…¡, Promote the professional development of juniorhigh school biology instructors; â…¢, Emphasis on the combination with other teaching modes;â…£,Construct a nice class atmosphere.The author designed two SI cases which were suitable for junior high school biologyrecitation according to relevant strategies. The teaching plan of SI was brought into juniorhigh school biology recitation, teaching plan was perfected based on the reaction of studentsin class and the evaluation of instructors. The practical application showed: proposedsolutions improved the teaching results in junior high biology recitations. Scaffoldinginstruction could help students to build up their knowledge systems more quickly,excited thestudents’ learning interest and significantly enhanced the efficiency of teaching in class. |
