The R&D of universities is an important part of our nation’s higher education system. At the same time, the input, output and input-output efficiency are the key criteria forevaluating the R&D performance of universities. In this research, the author makes theempirical study on the spatial scope and extent of knowledge spillovers in the universitieswith the knowledge production function framework and based on the spatial econometrictheory. The result indicates that intra-region innovational knowledge spillovers fromuniversity R&D of one province to other ones which surrounding it is positive andsignificant. The input and output of R&D in universities have spatial dependence, and notonly the input of the higher education R&D in one location increases its own knowledgestocks, but also the output of innovational knowledge spillovers to the adjacent districtswhich will cause the increasing of knowledge stocks in the adjacent districts.
