English writing is an important part in the junior middle school inEnglish teaching. However, from the author’s teaching practice and thegeneral situation of the written tests of the High School EntranceExamination in recent years, the students’ English writing level is notpromising; the junior middle school students’ English writing ability isstill weak in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.In this thesis, the author analyzes the present situation of writingteaching in No.4Middle School. On the basis of research results at homeand abroad about this thesis, and a clear aim of new English curriculumstandard for middle school students’ writing ability, I try to find out (1)what are the main difficulties and their causes in the junior middleschool students’ English writing?(2) What is the correlation betweenthese difficulties and students’ scores in writing? Then our educationworkers may find corresponding strategies to solve the problems, toimprove students’ writing level, to implement English quality education.This thesis is based on “comparative analysis” and “error analysis”theories. The author adopts the research methods including the students’work analysis, the questionnaire and the teaching research activities. Theauthor analyzes the errors in Grade Three of No.4Middle Schoolstudents’ compositions and makes the data analysis. The result showsthat the vocabulary and grammar are the main difficulties in the middleschool students’ English writing. The more difficulties they have, thelower scores they get. The questionnaire is used to survey the students’writing difficulties and the causes of these difficulties,which is from thestudents’ view. The questionnaire results show that68%of the studentsthink vocabulary is the main difficulty in English writing;54%of students think grammar is the main difficulty in English writing. Thecauses of these difficulties mainly include the shortage of vocabulary,the lack of writing practice, the lack of reading, being afraid of writing,etc. The author adopts the teaching and research activity, which is fromthe teachers’ view, to learn the writing difficulties and their reasons anddeeply understand the teaching methods and practice experience whenthey teach writing, so as to discuss the countermeasures.In order to change the writing situation, to improve the studentEnglish writing level, the author puts forward the following teachingcountermeasures:1) Attaching importance to the teaching of writing2)Improving the vocabulary and phrases teaching and learning3)Encouraging the recitation of good sentences, good paragraphs, andgood articles4)Intensifying the grammar teaching5)Qualifyingteachers for writing teaching in the light of local conditionsSince this study involved area is lesser, the research value haslimitations, and it needs to be improved by the author in the future.
