| Though dams bring great benefits to people, they also have big security risks. So it is particularly important to improve dam safety monitoring. Currently, the wired manner is mainstream method which is used in automatic dam safety monitoring. However, it has a lot of shortcomings such as heavy workload, high cost, post-maintenance inconvenience, network expansion difficult. In recent years, as the rapid development of wireless sensor network technology, it is gradually being applied to health monitoring of engineering structures, various aspects of medical rehabilitation, military, and emergency services. All these make it possible for dam safety monitoring to use wireless sensor network technology. Zigbee is the most popular short-range, low-cost, low power, low-speed wireless transmission technology nowadays. These features make it a better choice for dam safety monitoring.Starting from the engineering requirements for dam safety monitoring, this paper designs a dam safety monitoring system using wireless sensor networks technology. It mainly includes dam monitoring sensors, wireless sensor network nodes, and the monitoring center data management software. In this paper, wireless sensor network nodes and monitoring center data management software are designed.First of all, the hardware circuits of coordinator node, router nodes and RFD nodes are designed based on JN5139. The coordinator node’s hardware includes serial communication modules, LCD display module, keypad, and power modules. Router and RFD nodes’ hardware includes sensor data acquisition module, power module. Considering dam safety monitoring requirements, the data transmission distance is increased.Secondly, on the basis of the Zigbee protocol, the software of coordinator node, router and RFD nodes are designed. The coordinator node’s software includes serial communication, LCD display, buttons and other design; route and RFD nodes’software includes data acquisition and wireless transmitter.Again, the monitoring center data management software which includes data reception, automatically stored, the real-time display of data curve, historical data management, network topology mapping and other function.Finally, the system is tested based on the completed wireless sensor network nodes. Three tests investigate the stability of network, the measurement accuracy and energy consumption of wireless sensor network nodes. |
