With the high-speed development of Web2.0technology, network has become an integral part of people’s daily life, and is also a social place where more and more individuals fulfill the jobs of the work and life through a variety of tools or applications based on web2.0. Individuals generate large amounts of information through the applications making them not only the consumers of the online information, but also the creators. The information can help individuals to construct their online impression, and serve as an important basis for others to evaluate themselves. So how to enhance one’s impression through the online applications draws much attention of scholars.Impression management (IM) refers to the process by which individuals attempt to control other’s view of them. Due to the characteristics of the online environment such as no limitation of time and space, the change of the way of expression, anonymity, broadcast and so on,the user manages his online impression in a different way and traditional IM theory cannot be applied to the research of online IM. In this paper, the author defines the IM through the network as the online IM which is different from the traditional IM in real life. Online IM has become an academic research focus, but there are few researches and complete theoretical systems and structures about it.Based on extensive literature review, the differences between the online IM and traditional IM are analyzed and an individual online IM model is built according to dramaturgical theory which is applied to the web2.0. This model would include actor impression motivation, actor impression construction, feedback, actor definition of the situation and the comparator, which explains every step individuals take online. The author hopes the contents and results of the research can help the people to understand individual online IM very well, meanwhile, the paper will be as a prelude to this area in the future.
