The working principle of Doppler velocity sensor is based on theDoppler effect, which is used for transportation and military fields at thisstage on the measurement of the speed of moving objects and on radarnavigation. However, the low-speed microwave system for measuringvelocity of the equipment of mining transportation is rare.Sensor of the K-band microwave system for measuring velocity andits processing were studied in this paper and the low-speed microwavesystem for measuring velocity with the operating frequency of25GHzwas developed. Firstly,the technologies of Radio Frequency Identificationof microwave and radar antenna were studied. And many oscillations ofthe same cavity-mixers and horn antennas for the K-band were designed.And the oscillation of the same cavity–mixers and the horn antenna weresimulated and the parameters were optimizated by using the finiteelement analysis software HFSS. Secondly, the processing methods of theoutput signal of the sensor were analyzed and researched. The velocitymeasurement was done by combining with the self-adapting filteringalgorithm and modified estimation of power spectrum of correctingcovariance.The design for hardware and software of the data acquisitionand processing system was described in this paper, and embeddedapplication program was developed by using QT software. Finally, theK-band microwave system for measuring velocity were tested andanalysed in this paper, the optimum combination of sensors of the K-bandmicrowave and precision of error were determined.The results show that the K-band microwave system of measuringvelocity achieves the desired design requirements in this paper.Measuring range is from0.10m/s to5.00m/s, and the maximum absoluteerror in this range is0.026m/s; the relative error of indication is0.52%(When the speed is5.00m/s,the accuracy of measuring speed is upto±0.026m/s), which improves the accuracy efficiently.It can be used tomeasure the speed of the transporting equipment of mine used in thehostile environment.
