This essay chooses students in three universities: Anhui University, Anhui AgriculturalUniversity and Anhui Medical University, which are quite representative asinvestigators. Using questionnaire survey and literature research methods, the essaydescribes the overall situation of the contraction, the usage, the cognition, and theevaluation of media of college students in Hefei. Also it analyzes the subjective andobjective factors which impact the College Students’ media exposure, use andevaluation on the basis of different tender,major, and area. At last, it discusses theexisting problems in cultivating college students’ media literacy and puts forward thecorresponding countermeasures and suggestions.The essay is divided into four parts.Part One illustrates both cause and effect of college students’ media literacy, reflectscurrent state of relative global investigations and defines media and media literacy. Thispart also introduces structure and method of the whole essay.Part Two summarizes the situation of college students utilizing and evaluating mediafrom three aspects including time, category and approach. Then it discusses whethertraditional media would be substituted by internet and how they can avoid the trend.There are some analysis concerning issues such as the rampant advertisements, theirinfluence on people’s value, their most unsatisfactory problems, how to improvecredibility and self-evaluation of media literacy.Part Three: We analyze the difference between college students’ media contact, cognitive and present evaluation in different groups from three aspects like gender,professional, urban and rural. Statistical results show that, media contact time,categories, watching TV channel frequency, habit degree about no-paper newspaper,first media when major events happen, the necessity that college offers the mass mediaeducation course, differences between major and urban or rural are closely related. Andthe cognition and valuation have relatively strong relation with some factors wementioned.Part Four, we offer strategies and suggestions on guidance and supervision ofgovernment on media, social responsibilities of media organization, creating socialmedia literacy education atmosphere, course offered and education practices of medialiteracy, parents and children raising media literacy together, and how students developgood habits and improve comprehensive quality.
