In view of frequency sources’ importance in electronic systems as well as thehigher and higher requirements for electronic products with miniaturization, low costand high reliability in the field of modern radio-frequency microwave communications,radar, electronic warfare and space systems, the realization of miniaturizing frequencysource is a focused issues in the research of frequency source recently. In this article,we adopt Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) technology to miniaturize lowphase noise frequency source.This article make research into L-band frequency source, and exploratory researchon theories and methodologies of miniaturizing LTCC frequency source is conducted.The content and results of this study:The paper first elaborates the basic working principle and composition offrequency source, including direct digital frequency synthesizers technology (DDS),phase-locked frequency synthesizers technology (PLL) and hybrid frequency synthesistechnology. And then the design method and thoughts of frequency source circuit isachieved according to the performance of frequency source.Secondly, design miniaturization low phase noise frequency source using LTCCtechnology. Focused on the key technology such as base plate’s notching, embeddedpassive elements, layers interconnect. In addition, embedded Wilkinson power divideris completed(4.7mm×3.5mm×0.8mm).Lastly, completed the processing of miniaturized low phase noise frequencysource, three dimensional packaging and testing. The frequency source and its outputfrequency covers1800MHz~2000MHz, with a step of10kHz.The size of the moduleis only20mm×20mm×4.5mm.
