Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport Code (MCNP) is widely used in the fields of reactor physics, radiation shield, nuclear technology application, medical physics and etc. In order to obtain the calculation results more accurately, the MCNP calculation model is described by dense grid division and the high version of MCNP begin to use the MCNP mesh tally function in MCNP calculation. And the scale of the MCNP three-dimensional (3D) grid data is larger and larger, but the visualization and analysis of the large-scale grid data for MCNP is time-consuming and poor spatial at present. So how to visualize the large-scale grid data for MCNP is urgently demanded.Coupled with the technique of visualization in scientific computing and data cutting, a real-time interactive visualization method of large-scale grid data for MCNP was proposed and realized the visualization of the large-scale grid data for MCNP efficiently. By in-depth analysis of the large-scale grid data for MCNP, a data cutting visualization based on threshold and any section plane visualization was developed to promote the flexibility of visual analysis. Based on these methods, a real-time visual analysis prototype system of large-scale grid data for MCNP was developed, and it was integrated into the Nuclear Radiation Virtual Simulation and Assessment System (RVIS) as a sub system. In this study, the system has been tested by many de facto cases, such as the Chinese adult female computational phantom FDS-HUMAN which was developed by FDS Team. Testing results showed that the system could interactive the large-scale grid data for MCNP in real-time, and provided an effective, intuitive and flexible approach for the MCNP calculation.
