In recent years, with the rapid progress of science and the expansion of network, thewireless self-organization Ad Hoc network which is independent with infrastructure hasachieved long-term progress, and now it can be connected at anytime and anywhere. However,while the rapid growth in the number of Internet users, the worldwide communicationspectrum is faced with a serious problem: the increasingly resources scarce and distributionunbalanced. In order to improve the efficiency of spectrum utilization and solve the problemof lacking natural resources, several feasible proposals are given by the researchers fromdifferent countries in depth research, wherein, the cognitive radio technology is regarded asthe most effective method commonly. The fundamental point of departure for cognitive radiois: the secondary users can occupy the free frequency band with opportunistic way when theprimary users are idle. In contrast to traditional Ad Hoc network, the cognitive Ad Hocnetwork is paid more and more attention.In the multi-channel MAC protocol of cognitive Ad Hoc network, the channelassignment is one of the most important technologies. It can influence the networkperformance and spectrum utilization deeply. The multi-channel assessment protocol ofcognitive Ad Hoc network is researched and analyzed first in this paper, especially theadvantages and disadvantages of CRM-MAC protocol which based on control channel.Combined with the real situation of network sending data packets, a channel assessmentprotocol based on control channel is proposed and the bottleneck problem of control channelin the cognitive Ad Hoc network mainly considered. The length of the data packets is not theonly standard any more, a mode of monitoring the control channel is adopted to command thesituation of control channel, and the data packets can be send by the network real need, theachieved the well conversion of control channel’s function and balance between the channelassessment and data transmission.In the paper, the classical multi-channel model of cognitive Ad Hoc network is discussedand built by using NS2network simulator. Then on the standard of this model, the efficiencyand usability of the proposed protocol have tested and verified by three network performanceparameters: network throughput, packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay. The simulationresults show that the proposed multi-channel assessment can improve the spectrum utilization and make the network performance better.
