Positron emission tomography (PET) is a non-invasive, nuclear-imaging technique that provides quantitative and dynamic assessment of metabolism, biochemical reaction, and functional information of various organs in the human body. As an advanced technology in nuclear medical diagnosis and research, PET plays a significant role in the early diagnosis of major diseases, the efficacy and evaluation as well as the basic research. In practice, the data acquisition (DAQ) system has an important impact on the overall system performance and imaging quality because of its critical function between the detector and image reconstruction. In this thesis, we focus on the investigation of event energy and position acquiring method and relative read out circuit for the all-digital DAQ of the developed small animal PET scanner, which observe the coincidence detection based on the single events list-mode data. In addition, this work makes full use of the pulse characterization and digital signal processing technology. The main content includes:analyzing the structural properties and output signal characteristics of the PET detector unit following the basic working principle of the PET system, to refine and improve the frame structure, functional requirements and evaluation indicators of the energy, position acquisition module of the DAQ; on this basis, detailed discussion of various parts of the hardware design, including operational amplifiers, variable gain amplifiers (VGA), analog-to-digital converter (ADC), field programmable gate array (FPGA), as well as signal integrity design; the main control logic and driver interface are also discussed in this text; the design of the text has been evaluated in the system testing, simulation and verification section, which is accordance with the design requirements.
