WiFi And Marco Network Convergence Research

With the rapid increase of mobile broadband services and smart phone, thetraffic load of commercial mobile network becomes more and more heavy.Voice service quality is also decreasing due to data traffic influence in somehotspot. At same time radio resource usability exceed80%in some area anduser complaint ratio is increasing.To resolve the problems of over100%data traffic annual growth rate, thelimit of radio resource and bad user experience, this dissertation describe twomethods for WiFi and macro network convergence and realizing data trafficoffloading. One is EAP-SIM/AKA that use SIM information as confidential toaccess WiFi network to simplify authentication process and improve usabilityof WiFi resource; another is using IPSec to access operator packet coreservices via WiFi to provide unified service experience as macro network.According to theory analysis and solution development, EAP-SIM/AKA andIPSec access to PS core service have tested in China mobile, this trial havebeen proved to simplify WiFi access authentication and20%data trafficoffloading effect. Improving user experience and reducing network construct cost are the main benefits for mobile operators, and operators will makefurther study about this topic for WiFi mass deployment.
