GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), as a technology of2.5G wireless communication, is a new kind of data service based on the current GSM system. It introduces the packet-based conception and implements the high-speed mobile data transfer. GPRS is built on the GSM network, so it covers a broad range.SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a process-control and scheduling automation system based on computer network. The SCADA based on GPRS has the advantage such as the convenience of building network, no bondage of the terrains and areas, the high performance of real-time data transfer, high-speed data rate, account according to the flux, and the low average charge.The system part of this paper mainly discusses the study and design of the SCADA system which is based on GPRS. After analyzing and researching the existing monitoring management system’s overall structure, a communication system based on GPRS is designed, and a server’s software and hardware actualizing program is presented. According to GPRS and SCADA system’s features, a appropriate Internet equipment is selected to wireless Internet, and to make server monitor and control client ground on this network. The text espacially discusses the design of GPRS data transition terminal, and resolves the matter of the data and commands of TCP/IP protocol packed or unpacked and the problem of GPRS terminal clinging to network automaticlly, and moreover, the program design of the data center is proposed. In this paper, the main software components studies VB6.0programming on Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Hardware platform design adopts hierarchy structural design ideas, and has good flexibility and can be configurable. The concretely standeth hardware platform for the design and application software development, and visualization user interface are introduced.GPRS based SCADA system has a wide range of applications, which can be used all of the low rate of any environmental data transmission of business, such as electric power, water conservancy, medical, aviation and so on.
