The study of Competency models is at the forefront of human resource management theory and practice. In recent years Competency models are widely used in enterprises, but radio&television editors’ competence model has not yet been involved. Task analysis, behavioral event interview, expert opinion, checklists and questionnaire methods, qualitative research and quantitative research are adopted in this study to make a comprehensive and profound research in the features of radio&television editors and proceed to the competence model of radio&television editors. This study consists of two parts.1. Earlier construction of radio and television editor’s competency modelBased on Task Analysis, BEI. Expert Opinion, checklists and questionnaire methods are adopted to initially establish the competency model of radio and television editors. The initial competency checklist is formed through the BEI to12high performance and8ordinary performance and afterward encoding, large sample distribution of16PF questionnaire and its significance test of difference. Invite experts and radio&television editors to screen and form the final competency checklist. The initial established radio&television editor’s competency model includes13features and clustered into three competency groups.2. Exploration in radio&television editor’s competency modelThrough exploratory factor analysis the author find these13features can be classified into cognitive feature, self-development feature and achievement feature. The analysis shows that the overall and individual consistency index of factors have reached a higher level. The structural equation model derives the relationship between each feature and its respective competency group as well as the relationship between competency groups. The model has good construct validity and stability.The study enriches the modeling method of competency and its conclusions set up empirical research evidence for the radio&television editor recruitment standards and training requirements and it has important practical value in the radio&television editor performance appraisal and compensation management.
