Driven by the advancement of science and technology, China’s GSM digital mobile communications industry has experienced rapid development, as is particularly evidenced by the expanding GSM network and mobile user base after entering the21st century. Given the increasing number of users and the implementation of network expansion, it is difficult to ensure the quality of GSM wireless network, underscoring the growing importance of network optimization. Meanwhile, users are becoming more demanding on network quality, which is the most important factor to measure a mobile operator’s core competitiveness. Therefore, mobile operators are paying more attention to the improvement of network quality. High network quality relies on reasonable planning and fine optimization. Reasonable network planning is the prerequisite of network quality improvement, while network optimization is the most direct and effective way to improve the quality of mobile network after network planning and construction are completed. Wireless optimization is the most important and tedious part of network optimization. Based on real world cases, this thesis has an in-depth research on GSM network planning and wireless network optimization.First, the thesis briefly introduces the purpose and significance of the research, and makes more detailed description by research contents and methods. Then it introduces the basic knowledge of GSM digital mobile communication systems, including the current development status, the composition of system and subsystems as well as the role of constituent entities, and explains network planning and network optimization workflows in detail, with focus on GSM network planning and GSM network optimization practices in the real world. Based on the previous status of network, we make detailed analysis on base station construction and network resource requirements in the network planning section, and set forth the final construction plans. In the section of network optimization, we analyze issues in three aspects:expanding network coverage to enhance customer satisfaction, improving the quality of voice calls in urban areas through structural network optimization and delivering higher network quality on high-speed railways, and then provide solutions, tracks the effects of network optimization and together with the further improvement. Citing real-world cases, the thesis combines GSM network planning and optimization in an organized way, and serves as a reference for those who are engaged in network planning and optimization. Finally, the thesis makes a conclusion and outlook on the entire topic research, and the results are expected to be instructive in the improvement of GSM network quality.
