At present, the WCDMA network increases data throughput by introducing HSDPA. With time going on, more and more users choose the WCDMA. In order to meet the customer’s continuing requirement, the3GPP organization introduced HSDPA+, known as the next evolution for improving the user’s experience, getting more capacity and higher data rates. MIMO is a mature technology which is used in wireless communication fields. The theoretical peak bit rate will be doubled if WCDMA network introduces the MIMO. Further more, it can avoid the network operators to increase more hardware cost. The purpose of this thesis is to implement MIMO in Ericsson Company’s RBS (radio and baseband station) system. Because3GPP Release-7has added new physical format and procedure which are major function of RBS in order to support MIMO, RBS also makes some corresponding adjustments. The impacts of RBS also are analyzed in this paper. Based on above analysis and design baseline7of RBS system, the solution is given. In detail level, work focuses on updating some key algorithms which include CQI handling, data transmission scheduler algorithm and power control on HS-SCCH channel. After implement solution in RBS system, a new test environment is setup with test cases which are designed for MIMO. It has been proven by verification that the peak bit rate of downlink is doubled, and the realization has met the requirement.
