With the increasing popularity of Internet applications, the network has become amajor platform of data transfer and information exchanging. The network printer hasbeen the main stream products in the printer market which become more and morepopular between users due to its fast network access and convenient operation. However, most companies paid little attention to the safety of the network printer since therestrictions of cost and market profits. Although some embedded hardware firewall canbe found in the market, they can not acquire extensively application and popularizationfor the restriction of their structure, price and network access mode. This paper analyzes the latest model of embedded system designing and theproblems of main stream of the embedded firewall network printer in the current. Basedon the current products, and propose a new architecture and development model ofembedded firewall. That is, based on FPGA, using VHDL or Verilog HDL language toachieve the purpose of hardware control receiving and sending the network data packetsand data encryption and decryption technology. At the same time, we use SOPCtechnology to design an embedded hardware platform and then run the operating systemwhich can support filter rules to filtering the network data. By the above method, weimprove the weaknesses of existing development model such as depending onhigh-speed embedded processors, high cost, poor stability and so on. We also achievethe purpose of providing better network protection with lower cost. The results of the embedded platform test shows that the designed network printerembedded firewall can satisfy the requirements.
