This paper describes the design and implementation of the student information management system (SIMS) based on the fingerprint recognition. By using the embedded system to manage the peripheral equipment, the colleges and universities run the student information more conveniently and accurately. By using the fingerprint recognition and card technology to authenticate, the system has an advantage of high recognition rate, high reliability and flexibility.The paper first introduces the hardware architecture of the system, its essential function is to assist the computer to manage the peripheral equipment with the purpose of achieving the data transmission between card reader and fingerprint reader. The major of the peripheral equipment of the system are fingerprint reader、card reader and USB rotating camera.Then the requirements on the student information management system are obtained including functional requirements and non functional requirements.According to the feature of hardware platform, the framework of the whole system is designed well.The implementation of the students information management system is done by computer using programming based on object-oriented technology by in VS2008. In particular, different functions are specified for the proper authorized users, such as system administrator, instructor and students. The system mainly implements the functions including different users loginning the system, information collection and verification of students and teachers, course scheduling, student attendance management, course grade statistics and printing. Because of designing by the computer which is friendly to users, the system has the advantages of high expansible, siable and real-time.Finally, the testing for the logic designment of every module is carried out respectively.
