| Trellis coded modulation (TCM)/multidimensional TCM and continuous phase modulation (CPM) are bandwidth efficient coded modulation schemes. The multi-dimensional TCM (MD-TCM) has the advantage of achieving the spectral efficiency of a fractional value, obtaining full phase rotation invariance by using linear codes, and supporting high-speed decoding. The CPM is a class of coded modulation scheme with constant envelope and continuous phase transitions. Constant envelope makes CPM less sensitive to the change of signal amplitude, and continuous phase transitions makes itself a power and spectral efficient coded modulation scheme. Therefore, they are particularly suitable for power and band limited wireless communication systems, such as mobile, satellite and deep space communications. It is worth further research for its great prospect in future wireless communications. The main research work contains two parts. One is that the encoder and decoder of TCM are constructed, and the system performances of multidimensional TCM through AWGN and burst error channels are simulated, respectively. Then we propose a concatenated system employing RS code and multidimensional TCM in serial mode. And the corresponding system performance under the burst error channel is given. The other is that the existing methods for analyzing capacity of CPM are reviewed, after which an analogy method suitable for Rayleigh channel with no channel state information at the receiver (CSIT). Then, analysis and concluding remarks are given based on numerical results. The work will enrich the theoretical supports for applications of MD-TCM. Furthermore, through improving the reference performance for CPM, it provides some reference and guidance for design and research of related issues. |
