Coal is the main energy in the energy structure of China. But accidents occur frequentlyin the coal mine, which have led to heavy economic losses and casualties. Because of theimperfect security system, relatively outdated technologies and devices in the coal industry,the important information can’t be received in time. At the same time the system can’t timelyalert and adopt response measures. At present, most of the mines use the wired safetymonitoring system. With the complicated transmission network, high maintenance costs andthe fixed structure, the demand for dynamic changes of the underground working surfacecan’t be satisfied,and the blind areas appear frequently. While the wireless monitoring systemis put into practice rarely. Therefore, it has been extremely urgent that we combine a stableand reliable wireless transfer way, and form a more perfect safety monitoring system toachieve real-time monitoring of the underground environment.ZigBee technology is an emerging wireless communication technology, which isshort-range, low-rate, low-cost and low-power. It uses free applied2.4GHz frequency in theworld. With the strong self-organizing capacity and the high security, it is suitable for wirelesssensor networks. It is proposed that a general program of mine safety monitoring systembased on ZigBee wireless sensor network, which uses ZigBee technology to build a wirelesssensor network. With the ZigBee protocol, we design the hardware and the software programsfor the network nodes, then download the appropriate software programs to the main chipCC2530of each node and build a network. At last, through the network system we can realizethe real-time monitoring for underground temperature, humidity, gas concentration and so on.We can also set up the limit of the measured information. If the measured data by the sensormodule reaches the upper limit set, the system can timely alert.Finally, in the laboratory we build a simple experimental platform of the tree networkthat is made up by a network coordinator, a router and two terminal nodes. A simple testverifies the monitoring system solution by network terminals collecting the temperature andthe humidity in a room. The experimental result shows that the monitoring system has quickdata transmission, good stability, flexible networking, low power consumption and high practical value. With adjusted properly, the system program can be used in differentenvironments and achieve a real-time monitoring for much environment information.
