Mass customization aim at effectively meet the individual needs of differentcustomers. Customer need is an important basis for enterprises to develop customizedproducts or services. It’s also the starting point and the core elements of the productdesign and development. The information about customer needs is what customers usetheir own language to express their needs of customized products. Because of thedifference in customer knowledge, exposition ability and other aspects, the information ofcustomer need is always unclear and ambiguous, so it’s difficult to be identifying by thecomputer. An intelligent methods which can support the information retrieval andidentification about customer needs accurately is very important in mass customization.In view of this, this paper will research on the methods of identifying customer needsinformation based on the multi-facet domain ontology and semantic annotationTechnologies.Firstly, the elementary theories of mass customization, customer requirementdescription,ontology and semantic annotation are presented. The implement approachesof mass customization and the product family model are introduced briefly, differentinformation description ways are introduced and the advantages and disadvantages ofthese ways are analyzed.Secondly, analyze the concept and characteristics of the semantic recognition ofcustomer needs information. Elaborate the function of Semantically Annotated ProductFamily in information semantic recognition process, finally, the framework of identifyingcustomer needs based on ontology semantic annotation is proposed.Thirdly, extract important information like product concepts, relationships andproperties from the product knowledge base for the purpose of developing domainanthologies. The integration of domain ontologies is then performed to establishmulti-faceted domain ontology. On this basis, the product variant library can beannotated.Lastly, introduce the process the semantic recognition of customer needs informationbased on the annotated product variants. When a search query is input by the customer, itundergoes a query processing process where the contexts of the query terms are matchedwith the annotated product family, eventually returning the results to the customer.
