Has The Time Of The Electric Vehicle Arrived?

The Grid Enabled Vehicles (GEV) gained momentum in current public discussion. The headlines of various newspapers are taken by this issue. The question of feasibility occurs however, especially considering the high investment into infrastructure and research and development necessary.The author’s utmost conviction is that China is an ideal candidate to accommodate this innovation widely. To maximize the potential in the industry there is a need for an assessment of the major influencing factors and identify the key drivers and barriers to China’s adoption of GEV. The paper shows what key factors support or resist the mass deployment of the electric vehicle, and also proposes the main aspects to be taken into account for policy-makers when supporting this issue.The author would like to express his gratefulness to Prof. Dr. Gert Bruche, Dr. Jiannan Guo and Rahel Jotzo for their valuable assistance.
