Ningbo Lingang Industrial Cluster Promote The Regional Economic Growth

Looking back the development of the port cities in the world, we will find that the port-related industry plays an important role in it. Developing the port-related industry is of great strategic importance to the economies of the coastal regions, especially the economies of the coastal port cities. Focused on Ningbo’s port-related industry cluster, the paper analyzes what role the industry cluster plays in achieving economic growth.This paper puts the port-related industry into the theoretical analyzing frame work of the industry cluster. Based upon the careful analysis of the current situation of the development of the port-related industry cluster, this paper explores the mechanism of the economic growth of the industry cluster region. It finds that the industry cluster could promote regional economical growth by human resources accumulative effect, economies of scale effect, capital accumulation effect and knowledge and technology spillover effect. With the help of the econometric model, this paper studies the favorable influence that Ningbo’s port-related industry has on the regional economic growth. Collected from the six industries which have the typical characteristics of the port-related industry, the 13 index data cover a range from 2000 to 2009.Based upon these data, and by means of factor analysis, this paper gets 4 major factors:capital factor, human resources factor, scale effect factor and cost saving factor. After that, this paper calculates the scores each of the six industries get and analyzes the effect that different industries have on promoting the regional economic growth.Finally, combined the twelfth five-year plan of Ningbo, this paper clearly points out the position and developing path of the port-related industry in Ningbo, and puts forward relevant suggestions.
