Research On Driving Forces Of Cultivated Land Conversion And Relationship With Economic Development In Wuhan

The cultivated land is the basic and essential resources for people’s life and production. It is the key to the protection of national food security. At present, China is in the stage of fast urbanization and industrialization, and the demand for construction land increases, which will inevitably cause a large increase in the area of cultivated land conversion. The process of cultivated land conversion is not only the objective requirements of economic development, but also constrained by regional resources、 national food security and social stability. Therefore, study on the driving forces of the cultivated land conversion and the relationship with economic development will have a positive effect in coordinating the relationship between regional economic development and cultivated land protection, in protecting regional food security and realizing the sustainable development of society at last.Wuhan is the largest industrial and commercial city in central China. Since the implementation of the strategy of rise of central China, as well as the construction of Wuhan Urban Agglomeration, Wuhan ushered in great opportunities for development, at the same time, faces with the acceleration of cultivated land conversion. Under the guidance of cultivated land conversion theories, this thesis researches on the driving forces of cultivated land conversion on the base of analysis of temporal and spatial process of cultivated land, combining qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis. And this thesis further explores the relationship between cultivated land conversion and economic development. Studies have shown that:(1)From1998to2009, the temporal and spatial characteristics of the cultivated land are obvious in Wuhan. From the point of view of the time, the total amount of cultivated land and the area of paddy and upland both decreased. However, the area of cultivated land conversion increased. From the point of view of the space, within the12years, no matter in major city zone or in suburban areas, the area of cultivated land both decreased. The structure of cultivated land use changed greater in major city zone than in suburban areas. And the cultivated land conversion scale becomes smaller from suburban areas to major city zone.(2)Make an explanation on the cultivated land conversion by applying "Combustion Theories". It showed that the factor of the area of cultivated land, economic development and population is the burning material of cultivated land conversion, policies is the catalyzer and urbanization is the kindling point. Make a quantitative analysis of driving forces of the cultivated land conversion in Wuhan by main ingredients analytical method, showing that the level of economic and social development as well as agricultural intensity are the main driving forces.(3) From1998to2009, the relationship between cultivated land conversion and economic development matched with Kuznets curve at specific stages, which is inverted "U" type, because of the impact of economy and politics. Therefore, the phenomenon that the cultivated land loses does not automatically improve until that the industry structure has upgraded, the quality and efficiency of economic growth have improved and the system of cultivated land protection have perfected.
