With the coming of mid-late industrial era, the competition is becoming more and more serious for the equipment manufacturer, so the manufacturer have to concentrate their activities on the marketing demand and the requirement of the customers other than self-centered. Nowadays the company, if wants to be in an impregnable position in the intense competition, will mainly rely on the capability in integrating the various resources, but not just depending on advanced technology, incorporating the inside and outside resources with the requirements perfectly.Shaangu, as being systematic and service provider for providing power equipment for national economy pillar industries, such as metallurgical industry and petro-chemical industry and so on, has made a leap-forward development in recent years, whose basic operation philosophy is taking the timely delivery as priority. The products of Shaangu are characterized by single pieces, small batch and longer lead time, the requirements of customer is very likely to be influenced by many unexpected factors during the contract execution. Therefore designing a scientific and effective manufacturing schedule plays a key role to satisfy the timely-delivery requirement of customers. Shaangu has to take the customer as the center for business operation and keeps in line with possible changes of customer unconditionally by optimizing the planning system, and then meeting the strategic development and realizing win-win cooperation with customer. This paper mainly describes the understanding and thoughts for manufacturing planning. First this paper studies the product characteristics and the existing planning and management system operated by Shaangu, and analyzes the problems encountered during the contract implementation. On that basis the optimized approaches for existing planning system is put forward, and a package of detailed measures and procedures are worked out correspondingly, some complementary measures followed as well.The studies indicated in this paper have some reference value for equipment providers with features of single pieces and small batch business mode. At present, the contract performance is a common problem that single piece and small batch manufacturing companies are facing. On the one hand, the company should fulfill its promise to customer, which means delivering the products and/or services according to stipulated time and location to customer; on the other hand, in turn the customer should keep promise to the company, which means that timely paying the contract money in accordance with contract schedule and taking the goods on time, reducing the storage pressure of company. We will solve this problem through optimizing the planning system.
