Place attachment is defined as an individual’s cognitive or emotional connection to aparticular place. It is a hot topic in place study and has cased a great concern of researchers inthe field of touriam manangement, human geography, urban sociology, community science,environmental psychology and behavioral science. However, Place attachment study is littlerelated to event venue. The present studies treat event as an attribute of event host communityto study the place attachment between people and host community, but little concern aboutevent venue itself.This dissertation focused on the special nature of the micro-environment of event venuethrough examining the dimension of place attachment in event, of how it difference; what isthe characteristic of place attachment of event-goers; and what revelations for managementbased on the theory of place attachment in event venue. International Horticultural Exposition2011XI’an China (Expo2011Xi’an) is a typical representative of the types of mage event,and thus taked it as a case study. This research studies the phenomenon of place attachment Ievent venue thought integrated use of qualitative and quantitative studies. This paper collectedfirst-hand data by observation and interviewing, contracted a PSPE (person, society, place andevent) conceptual model of place attachment by using grounded theory. And then, the studytransformed the concept of place attachment in event venues to measurable and operativeindicators based on PSPE (person, society, place and event) conceptual model, collected thedata from questionnaire,conducted quantitative approaches, such as mean comparison andone-way ANOVA, researched on the characteristic and the influencing factor of placeattachment of event-goers from the perspective of demographic characteristic, the use offacilities and services and behavior characteristics.The result shows that (1) Place attachment in event venue has four dimensions: person,socity, place and event. Person and society belong to people dimension. The perception objectof people is a combination constituted by event and host community. Local factors anddistinctiveness of event are integrated in the event venue;(2) Event-goers have certain senseof place attachment on venues of Expo2011Xi’an, they focus more on dimensions of societyand place than person and event. Gender and education level to a certain extent affect theperson dimension of place attachment, place dimension has significant difference amongdiffering sources of event-goers. Place attachment or its dimensions have significant differentamong the event-goers’ of differing use of catering service, consulting service, security and convenience stores. Participation frequency and similar mage event experience are importantfactor to affect the event-goers’ place attachment.(3) The special nature of event venue is thecombination of place factors and event factors. Event-goers have interest and emotionalappeal both on person and socity in event venue. Event managenments need to have a deepunderstanding about the nature of place attachment in event venue, emphasis on itsmechanism and characteristics in the process of creating the unique selling point of event anddesigning the venue environment. In addition, understanding and utilizing the shaping forceof the mass media can be improving management effectiveness.
