Economic growth has long been the focus of attention in all countries. As amulti-dimensional concept,“Social capital” has aroused worldwide attention in recent years.Especially after the concept of social capital has been grafted from sociological field onto theeconomic field and has been expanded from micro-economic to the macro-economic, economicgrowth differences of institutional changes has been provided a reasonable explanation: aninstitutional arrangement to promote efficiency, must be satisfied with social capital as aninformal system.Firstly, the dissertation specifies the definition, classification and measurement of socialcapital and institution, then compares social capital as an informal system and the institutionas a formal system, and found that social capital and institution supporting each other, andjointly promoting economic growth; Secondly, the article explore the mechanism of socialcapital to promote economic growth. The essence of social capital is trust, through commonknowledge and coordinate actions, social capital lower transaction costs and promoteeconomic growth. From the perspective of resource allocation,the fourth part of the dissertationclassifies social capital as cognitive social capital and structural social capital, then clarifies theinteraction mechanism between social capital and institution, and finally comes to a conclusionthat social capital and institution have mutual substitute relationship.On the basis of describingstatus about China’s social capital and economic growth in the procedure of institutionalchanges, the fifth part analyses relationship on social capital, institution and economic growthof China’s31provinces,and comes up with a conclusion: with institution level beingimproved, the degree on trust to economic growth contribution is more and more low; thedegree on institution to economic growth contribution is more and more large; Finally, thedissertation puts that the government should reconstruct social credit, basing on clearproperty rights, the rule of law, moderate regulation, and modern associations.Through the dissertation, we get the following enlightenment: during the course ofinstitutional Changes, social capital dose not always support the formal institutional changes,social capital dose not satisfy with formal institution in the present, in order to stride acrossthe economic transitional period, we must expand the trust radius to establish socialcapital,consistent with inherent requirements of the market economy system.
