SCP Analysis Of China’s Logistics Industry

It has been more than ten years since China entered WTO. In these years China’s logistics industry has been maintained the rapid pace of development. However there is less research on the logistics industrial organization. Now the research is concentrated on the definition of the logistics industry, the significance of the logistics development as well as the structure of the logistics industry, lack of the research from the perspective of industrial organization. Even though there are some scholars research it from the perspective of industrial organization, mainly limited to the description of the logistics market structure, enterprise conduct and operational performance, lack of discuss of the relationship between the three. Research on the logistics industrial organization can provide theoretical guidance for not only the logistics enterprises, but also for the government.Based on the document research, this article discusses the current situation of the logistics industry of China from the logistics industry’s market structure, market conduct and market performance. The conclusion that current situation of the logistics industry of China as follows:market concentration is relatively low and the pace of development is very slow, and logistics service differentiation is very small, the market price is highly competitive, while the merger and alliance behavior have become increasingly prominent. Although the resource distribution efficiency and engineering level have been raised, the profit margins remain at very low levels.According to the relationship between the market structure, conduct and performance, this article discusses the influence of the market structure, conduct and operating risks on the performance of China’s logistics industry, selecting36listed companies of the logistics industry as samples. The sampling period is from2006to2010. The data is processed by STATA software in the form of mixed-effects models, random effects and fixed effect model to explore the influence of the market share, asset size, cost and other factors on performance.Finally, this article put forward own suggestions on the development of China’s logistics industry based on the current situation of the logistics market and the result of the model.
