China is composed of56nationalities. Each nationality has cultivated its own unique folk custom with its constant development. Folk custom refers to the thinking and behavior patterns gradually formed and jointly recognized by people in their everyday life, reflecting people’s cognitive style, thinking patterns, code of conduct, ethics and value orientation in their daily life, which is the life culture utilized and carried forward by the people. Excellent folk custom is the crystallization of people’s collective wisdom, an important part of folk culture, as well as the significant source of China’s traditional culture. Excellent folk custom of all ethnic groups plays a decisive role in their lives. As people’s living habits and guidelines for behavior, it influences people’s thinking and behavior, and boasts cohesive, guiding, educational and regulative functions. The virtue embodied in excellent folk custom is the excellent educational resource of moral education. However, with the development of the society, the inheritance and development of the folk custom are encountering various obstacles and facing the grim situation. Particularly, the moral education embodied in it is neglected, leading to the poor functions. Therefore, it is of far-reaching significance and value to explore the moral education function of the excellent folk custom.The Dong Nationality is one of the members of the56ethnic groups in China, and the Dong Folk culture is an integral part of China’s traditional culture. In regions resided by the Dong nationality, the rich folk custom is the origin of the folk culture. Moral education ideas embodied in the excellent folk custom of the Dong Nationality are essential to the contemporary society; more importantly, its moral functions are conducive to improving people’s ideological and moral standards, enhancing social morality, building a harmonious society and maintaining national stability and development. This paper can be divided into five chapters. First of all, starting from the meaning of the excellent folk custom and that of the Dong Nationality, the author analyzes the relationship between the folk custom and moral education; then the author clarifies the basic content of the excellent folk custom of the Dong Nationality and the moral education ideas embodied it; next, the author probes into moral education functions and the predicament of the excellent folk custom of the Dong Nationality; lastly, the author explores measures of giving into full play functions of the excellent folk custom of the Dong Nationality from the four perspectives of the subject, object, environment and media.
